Overview

Disc generation is mostly caused due to the aging effect. The fluid-filled discs between the vertebrae provide a cushioning effect allowing a smooth movement between adjacent vertebrae. Over time, the fluid-filled discs can become less flexible leading to severe pain, Spinal Cord Compression, or affecting nerves that radiate from it. If left untreated, it can cause back stiffness, spinal inability, and loss of movement.

There are two types of injuries associated with this spine condition: Bulging Disc vs. Slipped Disc. A bulging disc occurs when the intervertebral disc bulges outside its normal position in the spine. A slipped disc occurs when a crack in the outer layer causes the inner layer to rupture the disc. It is considered more severe than a bulging disc as it puts extra pressure on the nearby nerves causing shooting pain in the back and neck.
