Background
Dr. Moksha Ranasinghe, MD, FAANS, was born and raised in Sri Lanka. During her childhood, she developed a passion for medicine and patient care through volunteer work at the local hospital, where her mother worked as a pharmacist. At the age of nine, she was already gaining incredible hands-on experience while working in the war fields during the tragic Sri Lankan civil war with the Red Cross, treating victims. She also worked at a home for residents with brain and spine injuries, where she further honed her skills and passion for Neurosurgery.
Masters
She successfully ranked at the top of her country for the sciences allowing her admission with a full scholarship to Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she obtained her Bachelor of Science (B. S.) degree. She then obtained her Medical Degree (M. D.) from Dartmouth Medical School. During medical school, she was awarded the Norris Cotton Cancer Center Fellowship to pursue brain tumor research with Dr. E. A. Chiocca at Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard Medical School.
Practice
She completed her neurosurgery residency training with Chairman Dr. Robert Harbaugh and a fellowship in Functional Neurosurgery with Dr. James McInerney at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. She moved to Southern California in 2015 and has been dedicated to serving the Los Angeles community.
Work
She is affiliated with Good Samaritan Hospital Los Angeles, California Hospital, St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital and Beverly Hospital. She is board certified through the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
